The SoundEngine Free Collection is a sample pack containing six free instruments with unique programming only SoundEngine can deliver. First, we have the K-Piano pack
The K-Piano sample pack is a highly usable collection of piano samples, with many variations and “takes” on piano sounds—from straight-up acoustic piano to odd, keymap-shifted, and reverse, disturbed piano sounds. We sense these sounds will feel at home in many compositions.
The K-Piano pack was originally sampled through a PreSonus Studio Live console at a 24-bit/48 kHz sample rate. The samples were then edited and looped in Wavelab and subsequently edited in Izotope RX7.
There are 15 diverse presets and 29 unlooped piano samples—they were recorded until the piano rang out naturally.

Next, Clean Caster

Onto Stone bass
The SoundEngine Stone Bass sample pack is not only a great bass pack, it comes with a story (also for free).
The original samples came from an old Emu Proteus – confirmed by none other than Greg Stone (get it? “Stone” Bass!!)
Greg related this story, from when he was working at Emu-Systems:
In the EMU Systems Inc. lunchroom, there was a discussion of what bass sounds could be sampled for the Proteus. There was a desire to have a less-commonly heard other than just a Fender Bass guitar. Greg “chimed in that I had a bass that had a distinctive tonality unlike what was out there at the time. Stone Bass is a 1976 Travis Bean TB2000.” The bass was recorded live at Emu’s sound room live with a Brüel & Kjaer microphone through a 15” Altec speaker.
We’ve been moving Stone Bass sample pack around from hard drive to hard drive with the idea that one day, we would make a free bank out of it. Since we just wrapped up a couple of major products, we were goofing around in Logic Sampler/EXS for a while and came up with this bank, along with a couple of new sound design lessons in the process.
When you download the pack, you’ll find you have seven samples that are looped, adding up to 3.3MB. It’s just really one keymap, but we figured out ways to design 21 compelling bass sounds out of that one map.
More bottom with the Chapman Stick
The Chapman Stick sample pack represents a rediscovered treasure from our archives, circulating through various hard drives like a well-worn transmission passing through countless studios.
