Crankshaft: Dexed

Description

Crankshaft is a bank of Ambient, Lo-fi, and Chill sounds for Dexed– 64 in all – 2 Carts. We didn’t design your typical FM sounds either. When we think of this library, we think of the words “pad”, “motion”, “low-fidelity”, and “noise”. Noise that you’ll be able to highlight or tame in your DAW with a little effects processing.

We imagined sounds that the Mellotron would make – not analog synths, not FM synths – sounds that only a DX could make, but with movement and character. Let’s get this straight, about the noise we mentioned – we’re not talking about bad noise, we’re talking musical noise and life – breathiness, shimmer, high-frequency tones – things that sterile, dead sounds just don’t have.

Make sure to try velocity and the Mod Wheel with these sounds – Dexed is an emulation of the DX7 itself, with tons of added modulation options, so you’ll still find dynamic changes and movement in the sounds. Don’t forget to play with the Controller routings in Dexed that we have provided– they add a “depth of flavor” to each patch – we leave it up to you to apply to taste.

We recommend starting with a patch bank of professionally programmed Dexed voices, then learning how they work with SoundEngine’s own Dexed Owner’s Manual. The Dexed Owner’s Manual is a large collection of articles and step-by-step guides that teach how to get the most out of Dexed, as well as FM programming in general. Check it out!
